I know that you can't just shorten a longer barrel and expect reliable function. I know that the guy was never intended for lots of use with buckshot and slugs.  Such use beats it up prematurely.  I know that all longarms are not likely to be within reach in a situation. I know that the shotgun's power is meaningless if you aint got it when needed, and you probably won't have it. Nor are you likely to have the carbine.

I know that guys whose first questions are "who trained you" aint the type to learn anything on their own.  I know that buck and slugs are 40+ c a shot and that almost nobody trains with them enough to be much good with them. I know that training with one gun, then using another that's quite different is likely to result in screwups. I know that small birdshot, beyond about 5 ft from the muzzle, wont reliably penetrate both a heavy winter coat and the sternum.

Slink,
Very little of the info you are giving out is creditable.then most of it is mixed in with murry's law.this last post is just worthlass in misinformation.I am hear to tell you you do not have a real clue.I don't know where you are getting all your miss guided information.except that YOU KILL HUNDEREDS of little squirrels, dogs, cats, bird, nutrias, ect in your other post.Oh excuse me.that is not true.you wound and cripple them and watch them crawl away with chests shots from inferior ammo and very poor marksmanship.
my huntin rifle is safe from confiscation only while my battle rifle protects it.

Curiousity,  You have your choice a 12ga 870 with #2's 1.876 oz loads or a 20ga with #2's 1.210 oz both are 3.0 shells which one would make a better defense gun in middle of night.  You can buy a pistol grip stock which shortens both guns up and 20" barrels.  My choice is the 20ga because the 20ga has 25ft lbs of recoil and the 12ga has 54ft lbs of recoil.
The 12ga has more shot but the speed and energy are same.  This is the old saying how dead is dead.  I think a person could control a 20ga in the dark easier than a 12ga.  Anyway that is the way I think about it.

when slink got his head twisted off!!! I bet the bulls**t would make one heck off a mess when it all squirted out at once.

The rem. 1100 is a good as any other scattergun,if you learn how to use and maintain it right.

just the way I see things. :D  :D  :D

 :D

Heres what I have next to the bed...

and 5" from that is my Sig Pro if I feel the need.

Im all for carrying, but when it comes to home defense, just the sound of your shotgun being pumped is enough to send an intruder fleeing :) I guess this has little to do with the actual topic, Ok Im exiting thread....

Actually, my next *friend* is going to be somewhat of a tactical 1100 or 11-87. Or that new 105 Cti! Sexy!

My 1100 has proven to be totally reliable, & has never malfunctioned.  With a 20" rifle sighted smooth barrel it will group slugs within 2-3" at 25 yds shooting offhand.  The semiauto action makes recoil with buckshot or slugs very tolerable.
