Old Texas Bass from Lake Murvaul
« on: March 10, 2006, 01:53:20 PM »
Here is a bass I caught in 1972 (12 yrs old) on Lake Murvaul with my uncle.  It weighted 9lbs and 3oz and was taken trolling with a HellBender.  After much negotiation and a good deal on a shotgun, Dad and I allowed the mount to be displayed at Gibsons in Nacogdoches for years until they closed and then the fish was returned.  Currently the mount is in pretty bad shape :(

Epp Ferguson mounted it and was one of the best/earliest taxidermist's in East Texas at the time.  Maybe some of you guys remember him.  My uncle was Bennett Blake.

Take Care

Nice fish.

Up here in MN we have to catch three of them to get up to that weight.

Same over here in South Dakota, the lakes freeze too deep I guess.

Sometimes I really question my wife's desire to homestead up here on the plains while my Texas roots keep calling me home :)

:D Danegeld.  Sounds like you have the fever.......Texas is a State of Mind! :-D

But I must admit, the bass fishing here, year after year, has been great.  My largest was a 12.88 at Lake Fork in Feb. '86.  But the number of 5,6, and 7s make me think another big one is there every time I get a bite, and keeps me going back.
