Marlin 39 Mountie

I purchased a Marlin 39A Mountie to add to my collection (39A & 39TDS) and so far I'm very pleased with it.  It's a mid 60s vintage and probably has better bluing than my younger 39's  Very smooth and less trigger slop.

The wood is darker. It isn't bad looking but it does look aged.  Picture link

Is that the way it came or is it just dirty?  If it's dirty is there a good way to restore it to original?

I've only shot 8 targets worth of Aguilla SE subsonic through it.   The accuracy was better with this ammo than it is in my other two 39's (they prefer Fedral Bulk and Remington Subsonic.  The other two have Buckhorn rear sights.  This one has a cheap looking "BB gun" style sight, but it does seem to be effective.  I'm eager to test some other ammo and see what it can do at longer distances.

So far this is one is fast becoming my favorite.

I refinished my Model 39A when I was in high school in the '60s. It did lighten up the wood a little. It was probably stained by the factory. The 1969 vintage Mountie I bought last year has pretty good wood and I haven't done anything to it.
The sights are easily fixed. I like the Redfield receiver sight I put on my 39A all these years ago, but today, the receiver sight I like best is the Williams Foolproof. I put one on the Mountie along with a XS Systems white outline square post front sight. The combination provides me a very nice sight picture. I have played with scopes on the Marlins over the years, but I think they are more appropriate with iron sights.
