30-30 velocities are pedestrian because they are generally measured in 20 inch barrels, and flat nosed bullets(necessary because most 30-30 guns have a tubular magazie) do nothing to maximize down range velocity & energy.
However, a Savage 24 has a 24 inch barrel, and one can use pointy nosed boattailed bullets for a 30-30 if handloaded, in a savage 24.
If you were to look at Alliants reloading manual for their powders, you will find a load for a 150 grain bullet, in front of reloader 15 for a muzzle velocity of 2450 fps in a 24 inch barrel, not to shabby for a 30-30. Couple that with a pointed nose boat tailed bullet, and downrange velocity and energy are markedly improved. Even IF the krag could beat that, I don't think the animal would ever feel the difference. Just my personal thoughts and opinions.
Sincerely,
Garry
