swaged paper patch bullets
« on: September 11, 2006, 06:44:22 AM »
Other than Buffalo Arms I don't see much in swaged paper patch bullets. I bought a box of Badger bullets that are really good quality,
but can't find any information on the company. Does anyone know if they're still in buisness?

:o If you buy 10 boxes (250 bullets)of those swaged bullets that's about the price of a good used swage press on E-Bay ::)

Cant any one make a swaged bullet that doesnt have a step in the ogive to body area .That really ruins the B C Of the bullet when shooting long ranges.Arnie

Hey, how did you do that!!!  I can see how to swag a smooth side pill and then roll it on a file to score the sides for a patch to hold on to.... but how do you swag a bullet with lube grooves cut into it.  spin it on a lathe, form it with a two piece mold like a cast bullet?  How can you shove someting in from the bottom and pop it out from the nose and have indents in it???? Arnie I think there most likely is, don't know for sure I never looked to see what was out on the commercial market.
All of those bullets in that photo will work good at the Creedmoor ranges of 800 900 1000 yards.

JB.

Swaging a bullet with GG is just about  lost and forgotten.
At a time past there were a few swage press and die makers that offered a swaged GG die, Like Lachmiller and Herters and I think Hemp that made a collet die for the swage presses. It's a shame that that is getting to be a lost art.
But you can get around the collet die by cutting the grooves with a lathe or you can roll them with a tool that I use.
Or do it like I swage them.
