How accurate are match air rifles (10 meter guns)?
« on: March 07, 2006, 04:17:01 PM »
I've always been interested in buying a match air rifle, the kind used for 10 meter Olympic shooting.  Just how accurate are these rifles?  I read that they will put shot after shot from a fixed rest into the same hole, literally.  I have looked at purchasing an Anschutz Super Air 2001, which is a single cock pneumatic, I believe.  The pre-charged rifles are out of my $$ range.  Is this a good rifle, with this kind of accuracy?  Thanks in advance.  :?

Match Gun performance

Yeah, the Anschutz match guns are not over rated. They really do perform. So do Steyr, Hammerli, FWB, etc..

You do need to consider that most of these match guns are around the 5 - 7 ft*lb level and that they require very good pellets to get those performances.

33 feet is not the same as 100 yards, so keep in mind that anything over 0.100" CTC is the same as over 1 MOA, and that performance in a matchgun with 5 ft*lb won't necessarily extend to 66 feet or 99 feet. The adds for the FWB 603 claim a 0.040" CTC and that has to be compared to the 0.177" pellet hole. If you are not shooting far and are only going to shoot paper, the match guns do what they claim.

Regards, Dino

Growing up I always wanted a match air rifle and within the last two years I have aquired 2. The first I was looking for one and aquired a fwb 601. and I found a hws 75 . The FWB is a SSP as the anshutz you are looking at and the rws 75 is a spring gun. They are not do all airguns but for target shooting they are awesome. I even pest conrtol and plink with mine occasionally. They are really nice if you like fine guns. Decent pellets work for practice but the better ones do perform better. As with any gun all airguns have favorite ammo. I highly recomend scratching that itch if you have alwayswanted one!

Thanks for the responses; I did get the Anschutz, from Jim Edmondson, who has a very good reputation for these rifles, from what I've read.  I plan to use it to practice for .22 silhouette, as I can shoot in the house at 10 meters.  I've even found a cool set of swinging scaled silhouette animals w/ trap to use.  I think it will be great practice and fun.  Thanks. :-)

If ya got it from Jim you'll be fine. I saw that gun and did want it! I just could not justify yet another yet although I plan on getting a fwb 300 sometime...

That should be a great gun for what ya want to do with it.
