Everyone Getting Rain?
« on: June 22, 2007, 03:18:26 AM »
What a difference from last year.  Our lease in Ozona has gotten a good amount of rain which should help with the whitetail herd.  We are expecting a good number of deer, and some healthier does and bucks this season.  I hope all the greenness translates into better antler development as well.   OUr local lease in Waller is very wet, and if the mosquitoes don't actually carry us away, we hope to slay a few feral hogs soon.   I will try for one with my X-bow Sat morning, but the creeks may be too deep and moving too fast to access the best hunting ground with all the recent rains...

Too d--n much. No cotton crop last year cause not enough moisture for it to come up. This year too wet to get in to plant. Ranchers should be happy though.

I agree with oldandslow.  It has been years since I have seen the grass on my place as deep as it now is.  The cedars are taking over, seems like they grow a foot overnight.  I guess I will push some cedars as soon as possible, maybe they will dry enough to burn them before it dries out again.

That's Texas, from one extreme to another one...................the farmers in this area will not have much of a crop again this year.

Earlier in the spring I was thinking that the early rains were good for the corn growing around here as the past several seasons the fields have been scorched and burnt before harvest.  Right now though those same farmers might be wishing for a few dry days..

We got two inches in this part of West Texas early this morning.  The ground is so saturated that water is now standing in my yard, I haven't seen this since the Columbus Day flood twenty years ago.  And...........the weatherman said we can expect a repeat of this morning's performance again tonight.

It is have a positive effect in some areas, the lakes are filling up, that should remove water restrictions and give us enough water to wash our butts, but it is killing the farmers.  All the field look like lakes, most of the wheat fields are under water, cotton fields have washed out and removed the plants, and by the time it dries out enough to get back in the fields it may be too late to make a crop.

That's what I like about Texas, nothing is constant, it is always from one extreme to another.
