I have a ruger markII in 223 and would like to rebarrel to 204 cal.

being the two cases are the same dia. is the only thing I need is a
barrel? roughly what would be the cost for a smith to do the job.
I only have one gunsmith in my area to do the job that is why I am asking
about the cost.

In this area gunsmiths also are getting scarce and those I trust to put their work next to my tender body parts are even more scarce! Still their charge for a rebarrel range from $50(an old friend who is also retired) to $200(this guy is a match grade shooter and smith). The more the guy does the more it'll cost.  A rebarrel should cost between $200 and $500 for the average bolt gun..

I normally charge $300 + the cost of the barrel for a simple rebarrel job with no action work, and a standard blasted finish, either on stainless or blued. That generates about 50-65 dollars an hour, about the minimum I can operate on and keep the doors open.

You must also take into consideration the cost of living in the region. Here is the midwest our cost of living is fairly reasonable(probably shouldn't have said that) while in large cities it would be higher. It's why there's such a range of prices for these type things. Check your local guys and remember, the lowest price isn't always the cheapest.
