Fron Sight Shroud Removal Yugo M24/47
« on: April 04, 2006, 09:45:32 AM »
My apologies if this topic has come up before. I need to remove the front sight cover/shroud to finish cleaning some packing grease and to make a sight adjustment on my Yugo M24/47. Question(s):
1) How is the cover attached? Does it clip on, slide on, etc. Can't really tell by looking at it and it does not seem inclined to move. Before applying more elbow grease, I'd like to get a handle on the situation.
2) What is the best way to remove the cover (unless permanently attached) without maring the sight and my fingers?

Regards.

Its spring loaded on there and i use a screwdriver very carefully to pry it off and i may take a soft hammer and tap it off after its started comming off.

You need to pull the base of the hood away from the sight evenly and then slide off while holding them apart.

Snap ring pliers work well I hear.

I tied some chord around the front sight, making two loops.

then used my gorilla arm to pull the chords away at the same time and slide the hood off. I won't be doing that again!

My suggestion for cleaning? Take some WD 40 in aresol can and rifle outside and hose it down till it looks good enough, pat dry and move on!

Thanks gents.

I'd like to just spray the area and clean it, alas I also need to adjust the front sight and suspect the job will be all that much easier with the shroud removed.

Regards.
