Observations made in the gunshop today
« on: March 27, 2006, 11:12:27 AM »
I stopped by my local gunshop today to pick up some money from a couple of guns he had sold for me. While there I naturally had to take a look around to see what was new on the shelf since I was last there. In a word LOTS.

I finally got to see one of the CZ Huglu O/Us for the first time. It was the Redhead in (get this now) 28 gauge. Not even listed on the CZ site but this little gun was indeed a 28 ga. Redhead. Fit was pretty nearly equal to the Browning Citori and finish was fully the equal. It was priced at $790 as best as I recally. Very nice feeling and looking little gun. Very tempting if I didn't need a roof on my barn side shed. If it had been a Woodcock I'm not sure I'd have been able to resist.

I also got to see a DeHaan finally. It was the first I've ever seen. It was a nice little 20 ga. SxS and they are somewhat better finished than the CZ Huglus are. It was even more tempting and I might have to figure a way to bring that one home. How I'm not sure cuz I gotta have a roof. It was an S2 with full scroll engraving and I'm here to tell you it was NICE and felt as good as it looked.

There were some other CZ Huglus there, some Ithacas, a few Mossbergs and for the money they really look like a value in a dirt cheap O/U but I'd go for the Huglu whether CZ or DeHaan personally. Of course there were scads of Berettas and Brownings there. In fact I think there were more SxS doubles than I've ever seen in the store both new and used and same for O/Us as he had them even mixed in places normally reserved for rifles and pump/semiauto shotguns.

Seeing the DeHaan really makes me want one of those and that Red Head really makes me want to see a Woodcock in either 28 or .410 I think.

How did the Dehaan price compare to the Huglu? It's too late for me now anyway, but I'm curious...it's a pretty gun. My new Bobwhite is in at the gunshop, but I won't make it down there till Saturday to pick it up. Did the Dehaan have a double trigger model? Are the Dehaans about the same weights as the CZ's?
