I am kind of curious as to what bullets other members have found to be effective or ineffective on game.
Now I would think caliber, impact velocity, and where you normally shoot an animal all would have a big effect on what works for you.
    So I will start and lets hope this becomes an informative topic we might learn a little something from.

In my .30-06 I found Winchester Supreme ballistic silvertips in 168 grain to be deadly effective on whitetails. Used this round since...ohhhh.....'98 I guess with great results. Out of all the deer I have taken with this round, all were one shot kills and the most stubborn of the bunch made it about 50 yards or so before pilling up.

I do a lot of deer hunting so I can't really talk about other big game. These have put many deer on my family's table. I tend to use basic bullets, not the premium stuff. Where I hunt, you don't need the high dollar stuff.

Kinda old line calibers, I know, but that's what I use.

Daks, it happens.  I am sure everyone knows that you did not feel as though you had to repeat yourself :lol: .

I have never had a bullet that I thought did not do the job on deer.  Cannot say I have tried them all, but have tried quite a few and they all did the job.

270- 130 gr Win, BST - used this gun for about 15 years without any real mishaps. Then when crazy and started getting  differant cal.
300saum - 150 corelokt ultra - very effective whitetails
7mmRUM - 150 gr swift scirroco - great bullet. very accurate. IMO this is the best all round mid-size game bullet. Seams to be a happy medium between the BT and hard bonded bullets. Allways get good penatration and expansion with about 95% of shots being complete passthru.
270wsm - great results with the 140 accubond and the 130 BT. Will stay with the BT for WT and go to the 140 AB for bigger game.
30-06 - 150 Win BST - great WT round.
25-06- 117 speer hot core. Not had a chance to shoot a WT yet but holds dime size groups at 100.
6mm- 95 gr BT - Has killed all 4 deer I have shot with it, including two with one shot, both thru the heads( couldn't pass it up, allways wanted to do it).Have gun set up now for yotes.(nighlight addition).  Very accurate.Quarter size groups at 200yrds.
300rum - Just got but will shoot the 150 & 180 scirrocos depending on what I'm after.
Will try the 120 barnes TSX in the 7mmrum for a high speed WT round.

.50 Cal. Knight muzzleloader --- Best bullet I have found for deer is 250 grain Barnes Expander. Very accurate and knocks deer down in there tracks with a shoulder shot without excessive damage.

.270 Winchester --- Best bullet I have found for deer is 150 grain Rem. corelokt. I had a streak going 15 straight bang flops with this bullet. Unfortunately I ran in to some ruff times and had to sell the old Savage 110E in .270.

.30-06 Springfield --- Best bullet I have found for deer is 165 grain Sierra Game King (bthp). This is my new deer round from my Tikka t3. So far I have taken 6 deer with it in two seasons. Five bang flops and one 20 yard death run. Five were shoulder shots. The one that ran 20 yards was shot on a severe angling away shot. It entered just in front of the right hind quarter. The bullet then passed through ribs, lungs, front shoulder and lodged under the skin in front of the left shoulder. Here it is.

For whitetails, with my .308 Win chambered Savage Striker,
I shoot 130 gr. Barnes XBTs, driven by a max charge of W748.
This load chronies out of my 14" barrel at 2775 fps, and is just
plain ugly on northern whitetails.  Let's just say great penetration,
and significant evidence of great energy transfer.  I use the
same round in my .308 Win chambered BAR, with the same
results.  This round just happens to be sub MOA accurate in
both guns...I should play the lottery!

For Whitetails, with my .25-06 Rem. chambered Tikka M695,
I shoot 100 gr. Barnes TSX bullets, but I can't remember the
load details at the moment(getting old).  I know it chronies
up in the 3200 to 3300 fps range, and it flat crushes whitetails.
I have taken deer with .308 Win, .30-06 Sprg, .270 Win, and
the .25-06 Rem.  That is all I can say is SPEED kills.  And this
bullet is wicked at .25-06 speeds.

For coyotes, and woodchucks, with the same Tikka, I shoot
85 gr. Nosler BTs, driven by a healthy charge of Varget.
Chucks do some serious acrobatics, when hit by this
bullet, and coyotes are mostly Bang Flop, but don't plan
on saving the pelt

For garden munchers, with either my T-3, in .223 Rem,
or my Savage .22-250 Rem, I like V-Max bullets, in 40 gr,
and 50 gr.  Both are very destructive, and accurate, bullets.
The .22-250, shooting the 50 gr. are particularly impressive
to watch, when they hit rabbits, and coons.  My brother
still marvels at the red mist off one raider coon, in the
bird feeder, at the hunting cabin.

I was deer hunting in Albamma with my 30/06 shooting Hornady 150gr SP
I shot a deer at 150yd with this bullet going 2850 fps.

Going into the deer was a 30 caliber hole coming out was a 5/8" hole. Never found the bullet but it expaned and killed the deer. So it did what it was suppose to do.

Shot another deer in N.C. at 175 yds using my 300 mag with Hornady 180gr bullets. That bullet went in a 30 caliber hole and and broke a bone.
Never found the bullet runed meat where the bullet went in. Velocity was 3060 FPS. I figured bullet was to fast for deer that close.

I like to shoot woodchuks with my 300 RUM, it REALLY works, they blow up and you don't have anything to clean.  Just shoot and walk up there, you'll pretty much see nothing but little blood and some parts here and there.  I usually use remingtons 180grn Swift Scirocco

For most medium bore 30 caliber applications I have found the plain jane old Hornaday 180 gn round nose at moderate velocities to be very effective.  In big bore lever guns I find a heavy for the bore flatnosed slug at moderate velocities to be absolutely effective.  For smaller bores, like the 6.5mm, just about any slug from a 120 - 140 works wonders, and the 160 gn Hornaday rn will perform better than imagined.  JMHO.  Mikey.

These two have given me very good results with well placed shots the game dropped on the spot of with in 40 or 50 feet. Except for one shot with the 25-06 the bullets passed through. The 200 grain SP do their job just fine expand and keep on going.

44 magnum revolver factory loaded federal A,munition. One bullet did not pass through, shot at about 65 yard the deer jumped and walked off about 100 yards before dropping over. 240 gain JHP. All other deer complete pass through and near drop over effect.

I have been lucky to get in all the hunting I have and even more lucky to have so few failures by bullets on game. The truth is that most bullets I have tried have worked really well though a few in their early forms of developement such as the early x bullets left a bit to be desired in the way of expansion or the ballistic tip which had the other problem. But if I had to pick one in particular bullet for deer in one caliber it would be the 150 grain Speer hotcor out of my 30-06. I have taken many aniimals with that combination and never had reason to complain.

Took up coyote hunting so I loaded up some 75grn V-MAX in 25-06 based on what I had read about their explosive effect on game.
  Later I expounded on the reported virtues of this combo to my 72 year old uncle and hunting partner. He remained skeptically silent on the subject. Well the acid test came when I took the first poke at a loping yote and dropped him like the proverbial bad habit. We walked up on him, took a peekand it looked like he had literally swallowed a handgrenade, the damage was massive to say the least. Feeling somewhat vindicated I now remained silent on the obvious outstanding performance of said V-MAX.
  About 10 minutes later my uncle turned to me and asked "what was the name of that bullet"? :grin:
