Tough One: Spencer 56-50 bullets & reload data
« on: March 22, 2006, 07:16:51 PM »
Well, it's time to go into production. Anyone have a source
for bullets, reloading data? I found some brass on Midway.

Get Guns March Â’06 page 75 issue has a great write up about 56-50 Spencer.

That will be my next rifle purchase, been wanting one of those rifles since I watch the move Unforgiven. It really is a piece of American History.

Here is the data that was printed in the article.

Powder Trail Boss 12grains was starting load
Bullet was a NEI 315grs.
Brass was Star Line
Average of 1,184fps

If you wanted more info on load data using Trail Boss call Hodgdon Powered Co. @ 1- 913-362-9455

Here was my purchase(s) yesterday! The Spencer's companion is a
Navy Replica S&W Russian .44 - nice pair, eh?

Thanks for the reload data!

Got the Spencer out to the range today - what a hoot!

I've shot just about every carbine imaginable but I
have NEVER shot anything as SWEET as this Spencer
Repeater! It certainly is a crowd attractor! I'd like to
have a dollar for everyone who asked us what it was!

The only better thing would to have had one of my old
hunting horses back - would have loved to have had
tried it from horseback!

Very nice looking rig. Lucky dog.

You were shooting 350gr bullets threw that 44 russian?

Aren't those kind of heavy?

Yeah - I figured that if'n I put more powder behind that bullet ...
it'd just kinda squeeeeze itself right down along that barrel!

(Kidding Admin.!)

Actually, the Russian is the sweetest shootin' round i've experienced
in a very long time - a delight to shoot! Wishin' I had discovered it a
long time ago!
