Legal, Right and Wrong
« on: March 16, 2006, 10:12:40 AM »
Ok lets try and get this back on track here y'all.
I see lots of posts about what is and was legal at the time of the War Between the States and it got me thinking, so here I go.

Rome was within it's laws to try Christ as an enemy of the State, but was it Right?

Spain was within it's laws to have the Inqesition against non Christians , but was it Right?

England was within it's laws to kill thousands or American colonists because we rebelled, but was it Right?

The United States was within it's laws to push the Tribes from their lands to make room for westward progress, but was it Right?

Hitlers Germany was within it's laws to do the things they did against the Jews, but was it Right?

See where I am going boys, sometimes what is legal and what is right are not the same.Think about that before y'all start takin pot shots at eachother about the war and the causes of it and the reconstruction after it.I think if everyone just takes a step back and thinks about things this way, y'all just might find some common ground.

I'm not going to engage in any sort of moral argument, since it comes down to a matter of opinion; we have enough mewling infants on the matter who say that the South's legal rights didn't matter because "they had slavery," and so they were evil.

Likewise, they engage in hindsight saying that "America is the greatest country in the world now" etc. etc. etc., even going so far as to say that "The South would have sided with Hitler."

Basically, I do agree with Adams that we do need a government of laws, and not of men.

Finally, it was the Civil War which created the later events of the 20th century as I've outlined.
