Rem. Mod. 700 BDL SS DM Magazine problem
« on: March 02, 2006, 01:15:22 PM »
I have a model 700 BDL SS DM in 308 Win.  Two of my four magazines have a similar problem.  One of them is brand new and the other is like new.  The problem is that when I go to chamber the LAST round in the magazine, the base of the cartridge Pops up out of the magazine after I move the bold forward just a half inch or so.  The rear of the cartridge often ends up on top of the bolt and can fall free of the rifle if I do not catch it first.  Remington told me to take the rifle and mags to a Rem. qualified gunsmith.  Have any of you experienced this with your magazines?  Is there a quick, cheap fix - like bending the lips of the magazine in or out?  I'm willing to experiment a little before I spend the time and money at a gunsmith.  Just thought I would ask around here first.
Thanks in advance for any advice.

The cartridge is supposed to pop free of the magazine feed lips. It may be doing it a little soon...  Those feed lips are quite tough in my experience. They can be bent a bit inward but cautiously!! Too much and the round will seem to hang as it refuses to pop loose from the mag..

Thanks for the reply.  I bent the right lip in a "hair" and now the magazines work perfectly.
