Support our troops!!!!!
« on: March 18, 2006, 06:25:47 AM »
At my local walmart today the girl scouts were selling their famous cookies and if you purchased a box they can send it to Iraq to show support to our troops by giving them a taste from home. I think its a great idea and worth doing even if youy can send one box we can all make a difference in letting them know we support them.

Godbless our troops and bring them home soon!!!!

I purchased 25 boxes of cookies and there all going to Iraq to our troops. We can make a difference if we all give a little.

:D Great program.  For those that want to contribute, following is a list of things you can send.

Foot powder
Body powder
Toothpaste
Mouthwash
soap
tooth brush
shampoo
shaving soap/cream
popcorn
caned chips
nuts, dried fruit, trail mix
cookies
candy
gum
socks
T Shirts (black or O.D.)
Books (no playboy, etc), cards, checkers, etc.
mints/hard candy

Remember when shipping, do not send anything that will melt or that may spoil.  They have limited access to cooking equipment, so everything should be ready to eat, Some areas have microwaves and can pop corn or warm something up.

I am sure the troops will appreciate anything you send.  The military exchanges are only located in the high profile areas, and supplies are limited.

Not much change in the support and what they want since Viet Nam.......

Beleve it or not another thing is "Panty Hose". When my wifes nephew was in the first desert storm thats what they were asking for amongst other things. Gino was in the tank corps and they used the panty hose around the air filters to keep the sand out. Wife was working for USFS at HQ and made a haul the first day, then the gals started bringing in their extra, and old hose

We have been sending care packages for a while now and it is really surprising the kind of things we are getting asked for.
Eye drops, Razors, Cards for them to send back home for childrens/friends birthdays-Anniversaries etc. , envelopes and writing paper. Spices like lemon-pepper salt, cajun spice (anything to make the food taste a bit better). We go to the post office and get the FLAT RATE
boxes to pack stuff in, and then "MAKE EM' HEAVY". We use hard candy like packing peanuts to really get our money's worth on the shipping.
If it is a relative or friend you are sending it to, Always ask about other folks needs in their unit also! Remember that our soldiers are quite diverse now, Men and Women of all different racial and ethnic backgrounds, who may have some special needs you may be able to help them with.
