Colt Conversion Unit cal.22
« on: January 26, 2007, 02:13:59 PM »
Hello.
What kind of accuracy can I expect from this Conversion unit?
It has adjustable sights, and patrigde front sight. With CCI Standard i get groups about 2" on 25m. With Lapua Master, 1" groups.
And the floating chamber does not "float"so well,200 rounds and i have to clean it.Should I use some kind of lube here?
I like this unit very much,on a good day I can beat  some European targetmachines, priceless ;D

may be 25 or 30 years ago i had a colt made 22 conversion kit , i paid $100.00 for it used but in excellent condtion with the box ,  i fitted a match barrel bushing and the accuracy was only plinking grade, i allready had a few hi std,s  for   BE shooting so i kept it for a few years and sold it

The .22 ACE Conversions for the 1911 are not noted for accuracy. High speed ammo works better and takes longer to foul the floating chamber. This is necessary because it has a heavy steel slide. The newer .22 conversions for the 1911 use aluminum for the slide to make them work better with standard speed stuff.
I have a Marvel No 1 conversion. It has a Shilen barrel and aluminum slide much like a S&W Model 41. It is very accurate and functions fine with match ammo. It uses the readily available Colt ACE mags.
