22 hornet question ?
« on: March 22, 2006, 01:23:58 AM »
Hey fellas, i have a handi in 45-70 that i really like a lot, very accurate little rifle, i am so impressed with it that i am now considering one in a varmint caliber. i am leaning towards the 22 hornet and would like to hear hunting experiences on critters up to coyotes, I know very little about the hornet, is it accurate, is it enough gun for coyotes at say 100 yds ? How much difference in power in 22 hornet and 22 mag ?    thanks

get the hornet  you wont look back, i have shot dingos with the hornet which are about the same as coyotes. i have not owend one in the handi but hand one  on a  cz fox bolt gun very accurate round and a lot more hitting power than the 22 mag, and very cheep to reload.the guys in here will tell you that they are very good in the handi rifle.

Get the Hornet it is one of those rounds you never forget are walk away from shooting. I have taken deer at 75 Yards with a neck shot one shot.

The Hornet is a great, fun, historic cartridge. It is a different world from the .22 mag. I enjoy shooting and loading for mine very much. If that's what you want, get it. But for pure practicality, more power, cheaper ammo, and a better chance of finding an accurate load, get the .223.

i sold my 22 hornet handi. lost  enough yotes with it, even chest shots all placed good using 40 grain ballistic tips. i wished i had purchased the .223 instead.

You will like it!

I have one and use it prairie dog hunting and other varmints. The thing I like is it small report. I would not hessitate to shoot coyotes. It is not the most accurate round I ever fired but then again I didn't buy it to bench rest shoot either.

Love mine, it's very accurate!! 10 shots in less than 1" with most of em inside ½". The small dose of Lil'gun doesn't heat the barrel much, so it would be a great colony shooter.
