i am new to this site so perhaps this has already been discussed,but im going to ask anyway.why wouldnt a company like H&R/NEF develop a handgun with replaceable /interchangable barrels,similar to TC but at a more reasonable cost to consumers.it just amazes me that noone has taken the innitiative to take on a project like this.i for one would definately have interest in an economical alternative to the TC .i may be way off base,but its just a thought.let me know what you think either way,just dont rip me a new one if you dont agree!!thanks ,jim :idea2:

It has been talked about on this site - more than once....

To make a long story short - Marlin (owner of NEF/H&R) don't seem inclined to jump through the hoops that a manufacture needs to jump through to manufacture handguns. And then toss into the mix, potential liability issues and ultimately you end up with the answer that Markus just supplied.

I believe that TC started out as a manufacturer of handguns, then introduced long guns... H&R would be doing it the other way 'round, and it appears they just ain't that into it...

The liability thing is nolonger a concern now that we have the Commerse Act which protects firearm manufacturers from lawsuits due to someone using the weapon in a crime.  

There are legal and licensing issues that the manufacturer has to deal with though.  The manufacturering license to build rifles is good to build pistols too, but extra paperwork and taxes are involved.

If you are really interested in a Handi pistol, for $200 and a 3-9 month wait on a background check-you could make one.   This takes applying for a Federal NFA Tax Stamp and waiting for the FBI & ATF to approve it.

If you can lawfully own a handgun under Fed law, and if YOUR state allows NFA items-you will have no problem getting the Tax Stamp.

If you want an interesting uncommon (non T/C, etc.) single shot hand cannon, have a look at the EAA Thor.
Comes in .308, 45-70, etc.
