CVA .32 shooting good so far
« on: March 24, 2006, 08:35:31 AM »
I tried the 777, fff in the CVA. I loaded 25 grains behind a Hornady .310 swaged ball, and a pre-lubed .10 patch. It goes off right now, and shoots around an inch at 25 yards. Shots at small objects, a red brick, at 50 yards have all found the mark. I will keep working on the load. If it gets any better than it is, it will be more than enough. I will shoot a couple of woodchucks with it this spring. Maybe a turkey in the fall. Then squirrels. I am thinking of a cap and ball revolver as a companion gun. Maybe a Colt copy in .32. I am not giving up my cartridge guns just yet, but this is lots of fun. Shotgunner

Hey Shotgunner, I got my CVA .32 squirrel this summer (Oct) and have been playing with it. I'm shooting .310 rb with .010 patches on top of 3F goex with very good results. I haven't had time to experiment with different combinations, but when/if I run across something exceptional..........I'll post it for you guys.......hope you'll do likewise. There are quite a few people who have these little guns on this site and have helped me tremendously in the past with mine. I did have a few squirrel & dumpling meals from it, and when this years bushytail season opens I hope to have it fine tuned and have many more. They are very fun to hunt with and you can shoot a half million shots per pound. The extra attraction for me is I get only one shot at them squirrels (usually). I did get two shots at one squirrel but I figured he was on dope as most of them can't get away fast enough. (might have been deaf) Good luck and keep your powder dry. Rick

How tight is the .310 ball and .10 patch? That seams like exactly bore size and would seam to be very loose? I know I use either .005 or .10 over borew size for a tight fit. I am curious :D Jack.

seems to be very good, was using the .015 with .310 ball and seemed to be a little tight.......groups are good .310/.010. I will try different combos and try to get something better. Was thinking of trying the #1 buckshot as suggested on the board W/ .018 patch.
