Congratulations!
The 325 WSM is going to be excellent elk medicine. Let us know how she shoots.

I'd say if that doesn't work I don't want to hunt elk!

The 325 WSM and the 300 RUM shoot the same weight bullets at about the same velocity. I own thw 300 RUM. :D

So your saying that the 325 will shoot around 3450 fps with a 180 grain bullet? If the short 325 will match the speed of my 300 Ultras I goota have one!

jro45, I fear you've been a little optimistic about the abilities of the 325 WSM.
On factory loads Remingtons 300 RUM 180gn Core-Lokt or Scirrocco allegedly has an MV of 3250fps while Winchesters 325 WSM 180gn Ballistic Silvertip load supposedly clocks 3060fps out the end of the tube.
That's a good 200fps.
You then have to take into account the loss in ballistic coefficient because of the larger cal.
Don't get me wrong.....325 WSM is a great cartridge on its own terms but a short action replacement for the 300 RUM it is not.
Meanwhile, superdown, great purchase.
I play with a 8x57 Mauser and the extra oomph would be even more fun.
8mm is a sorely overlooked cal.
