Hunting holsters revisited...
« on: April 06, 2006, 03:56:27 AM »
In a recent post,I asked for recommendations on a hunting holster for my B;ackhawk. I ended up with two different holsters by Triple K and a leather cartridge belt by them also. Both of the holsters are molded to the outline of a SA and my BH fits just right. The dye on all 3 pieces matches. All three pieces are available in different colors and lenghts.

One is a standard style hip holster(Cheyenne Western #114) and the other is a crossdraw(Keegan#115) that they've just started to make. I should have thought it out a little more and not gone with the hip holster. It hangs down pretty far due to length, weight and mostly the shortness of my legs. The crossdraw is great! It doesn't get in the way whether you're sitting or standing and allows for easy access.
If I could change one thing on either of them,it would be the loop/thong that hooks over the hammer. It seems to be pushing my rear sight around. Of course this wouldn't be a problem on most SA's. I may talk with a local leatherworker and see what he can do for me.

Thanks to all that answered my previous post.
I purchased all 3 thru Cabelas and got a better price than by calling Triple K direct. The crossdraw had to be special ordered and it took a little better than a month for it to arrive.

Check out Dick Murray custom leather.  He makes a unique crossdraw holster that is sort of a thumb break/flap combination.  Just as fast as a thong or strap, and keeps all of the leaves and trash off your gun that seem to accumulate when following the puppies on a hot track.  Not to mention protecting the rear sight.  All of the houndsmen that have seen this holster have ordered one.  Just MHO.
No such thing as too dead.
