would this still work???

I regulary fish for big flatheads in the summer and the best bait I have used is bluegill, they are still alive or have just died.

I would like to know if I caught some bluegill and froze them if they would still work as good as the fresher ones.

It might. I always hear that flatheads prefer live bait but I always seem to have the best luck with cut up creek chubs. Tried some kind of preserved store bought shad once and didn't have any luck, so maybe they prefer fresh bait.

For big flatheads you can't beat live bait, but sometimes they will hit a fresh cut or fresh dead bait. I've caught them on shad that were just caught and put on ice whild fishing for blues.

This might ruffle some feathers, especially if you're in the bait business, but as far as I'm concerned that comercial catfish bait is a waste of money.

Doesn't ruffle my feathers, but I have to disagree.  I seldom use it anymore, but dip baits including Sonny's Super Sticky was always pretty good stuff for catching lots of smaller channels and blues.  (1-5 pounds)  And even bigger sometimes.  Biggest channel I ever caught on rod and reel was 12 pounds, and I got it on a homemade dip bait I used to make when I was in the Army.  In fact, that's about the biggest channel I've ever caught on anything...to include jugs and trotlines baited with good stuff like fresh shad.

About all I use for channels and blues is shad, fresh caught shad. I do use shrimp when the channels are spawning, and live perch for channels and flatheads on limblines.

I heard about how great Sonny's was a few years ago, and went halves on a case with a young fella that was telling me how good it was. I still have my half...well I did give away a jar, and did use about a half jar, but all I caught was little channels, and I mean little ones. I don't think I ever caught caught a keeper with the stuff.

I would gladly send you the stuff to get it out of my garage, cheap. If you're interested send me a PM, and we can work out the details.

I'll never use the stuff.

I appreciate the offer John, but I seldom use it anymore, either.  The 3/4 full jar I keep in my boat for "emergencies" will probably last me another 2 years.  Like you, I almost exclusively use fresh shad.  While I use to have good luck with dip baits, they will tend to catch smaller fish.  A larger fish caught on dip bait is rare, and I would rather catch a couple 20 pound blues in a day, than a boat load of 1 pound "fiddlers."

OK, and after I made the offer I kind of regretted doing it cause I had another idea to get rid of the stuff. I'm going to attend a little fish fest get together in April, and they want some prizes donated for different fishing categories....that stink bait will be just the ticket.
