Garrett 540 in BC?
« on: March 25, 2006, 08:55:17 PM »
I was looking to see if anyone knows if the Garrett 540grn HammerHead  round will feed into the Buffalo Classic? I have searched this forum and haven't found anything, might be that I just wasn't looking for the right thing. So I apologize if this has been asked before. Thanks for the help. Shoot Safe

If it will feed thru a levergun, it should work fine in a BC, but they recommend ballard rifling which the BC doesn't have. Might be kind of an expensive experiment.

If it does it's gonna HURT like the devil. I shot them in my Browning Hi Wall BPCR and that sucker must have weighted 13 pounds and it was very painful to my shoulder. Didn't take many to get all the fun I wanted from them.

Mac I mounted a 6-24X Bushnell Elite 4200 on it for the accuracy testing of the entire Buffalo Bore line in .45-70. Somewhere on the site is the review I wrote on that ammo.

I don't recall the specifics on that one load but none of them were worse than 1.5" at 100 yards. I can't recall if I shot three or five shot groups right now. But the accuracy of all of Tim's ammo that I've tested has been excellent. Some of the loads went less than MOA. I just can't recall which right now.

Here ya go, I looked up the link to that review:

http://www.graybeardoutdoors.com/product_test/review-18.shtml

The worst of them was the 350 at 2.2" average. I see I made a typo in the review and called the 540 fmj a 500   but it's the only fmj ammo Tim loads for it as far as I know. The groups were 0.95" to 1.2" for that load in my rifle at 100 yards.

That's kinda what I figured Bill...That is some of the best shooting factory ammo around :agree:I guess if your going to use a 45-70 for the really big and dangerous stuff..it's well worth the price..

Oophs, just noticed this one asks about the Garrett. I was shooting the nearly identical Buffalo Bore not Garrett. Sorry.
