linning 51 barrel?
« on: July 22, 2007, 08:24:14 PM »
I'm thinking of linning the barrel of a 51 navy I converted to 38 long colt so I can do away with the use of hollow base ammo.  I cast my own and use six cavity moulds for plain base, but have to use a single cavity for hollow base moulds.  I can do the detailed welding to secure the barrel linner, and can get the barrel linner, but does anybody know where to get a piloted bit for drilling out the orginal rifleing?

thanks.

Look at the R&D website, they charge $60 to reline the bore to .357.  You can't buy the tools and cutters you need for the price,, especially for a one time job.  Note, however that R&D has a different cylinder for the relined bore, reduced ahead of the chamber like a normal 38 cylinder to match the bore, where the hollowbase chamber is bored straight through,  He may trade or have a deal on that..

R&D's price on the bore liner itself for your installation is $45.

Brownells has bore drills and liners.
