308 rechamber help
« on: April 02, 2006, 04:13:47 AM »
Hi guys been awhile since I been on here.  Anyways my .308 survivor barrel has some nicks in the chamber, rounds will go in fine but once fired they are stuck requiring a cleaning rod to take them out.  I tried to remove the burrs with no such luck.  I have been thinking about rechambering but to what caliber.  If any of you have an answer on how I can fix this problem that would be great Thanks

The .30 Newton would work, there may be other wildcats, too. Have you considered asking NEF/H&R to fix it or replace it??

Does anybody know anything about that 30 newton I have been trying to find some ballistics for it with no such luck.  Also where would I find brass and dies.  I am the reason the chamber got nicks in it, otherwise I would try to send it back to H&R. I tried again today to remove the nicks a little better but I don't think the gun is going to shoot very good any more.  I will end up getting a new 308 barrel latter, but would like to try salvage the one I got right now.  That .30 newton has got me very intrigued.  THanks for any help

Here's a previous thread on the subject and some alternatives. I don't think you could load it to its full potential and load data is very scare, the alternatives mentioned in the thread would be better choices. The 7.5x55 would be my choice after refreshing my memory banks on the subject!!
