Idea on Gun value
« on: April 02, 2006, 08:13:51 PM »
Hate to post this question, too many variables, not enough info and etc.  But after a little research on web looking for answer I thought I give you more knowledgable people a shot at helping me.   Went to a local gun show and found a really nice rolling block rifle.   Dealer said it was Husqvarna made and a 8x58Danish caliber.  Later on website found existence of 8X58 Krag AKA 8X58R(immed)cartridge from this era.  You can make this cartridge from 45-70 brass if I remember research correctly.  The rifle had the round brass arsenal disk on stock, like I've seen on Swedish Gustav 96 mausers.  Barrel a number 1 according to disk, and bore was in really great shape.  I don't remember seeing any markings on metal that would reveal any info about rifle.  Saw pics on some site that helped me ID it as circa late 1800s, but one I saw at show had forestock shortened and rifle sling attachment silver soldered to barrel, which I don't think was original military barrel based on web pics I've viewed.  Least ways, front sight, did not appear military, but rear sight did.  Barrel at show seemed to be same lenght of web pics.  Remaining wood in very good shape, and metal finish good for gun that old.  Got dealer down to $390, from $450, before I discovered he wouldn't take plastic or check.  Had already bought a rifle at show before I discovered this rifle, so short of cash.  Anyway, my question is:  any comments on price for such a rifle?
