Jeff, I ran across some 38-40 ammo just a couple of days ago. It's marked U.M.C. and 38-40 and has a very small primer. I have no idea how old it is or if its factory or reloads. I was hoping someone could tell me its vintage. And yes, I would sell it, if its what you're looking for. Thanks Dan

Your UMC ammo is most likely pre 1910. UMC Purchased Rem. about that time then changed the headstamp to Rem-Umc. THis ammunition was loaded with small rifle primers.

Good luck on your search. There is some "Sticker Shock" when one sees the price of original .38-40, .44-40, etc. cartridges in original boxes. In good condition, they will bring $300 plus.
