Just had a chance to go to the range with my new 7600 35 Whelen. I put a Bushnell Elite 4200 2.5 to 10 on top and tried some ammo.

I just couldn't get used to the trigger! What a nasty pull on it! Felt like a LONNNNGGG trigger creep and a heavy one at that. Towards the end, I was getting used to it but it is very different than my 30-06 Savage 116 and I don't want to have to get used to different triggers each time I change guns.

Anyone ever do a rework of the trigger to eliminate creep and set the poundage down lower on a 7600? What kind of price tag? I don't want to have to drop a Timney in but I will if necessary.

My 7400 Carbine had an out of box trigger that reminded me of trying to drag a sled through sand. After about 200-300 shots it wore to the point of being usable. Not good, but usable. Does Timney or anyone make an aftermarket trigger for these rifles? I would suppose that judicious stoning and polishing may help, but these are assemblies unlike bolt triggers and would require someone familiar specifically with Rem 7400/7600 triggers to regulate them correctly. I would suggest trying to fire it several hundred times and then seeing of you can live with the trigger you get before having the trigger assembly worked. My thoughts, good luck.

I own 2 760 gamemasters and have had the trigger redone to 4 lbs on both and my smith was able to get rid of some of the slack in the trigger, I am quite happy with the results and it did not cost an arm & leg!!!!!!!!

I just talked to Jim at Clark's Custom Guns and they want $65 to do a trigger job on your 7600. Nice thing about it is you don't have to send gun in just trigger guard assembly. That saves a bit on shipping.
Jim said he would take the trigger to 3 1/2lbs which is great.

When I had my 7600 whelen, first thing I did was bring my rifle down to wildwestguns and had them fine tune the trigger. oh man what a differance. it actually felt like a rifle vs a shotgun trigger. Cant remember what the cost was but it was well worth it.
