I finally got my weekend off and the weather to co-operate and got to spend some time at the public range. Saturday was kind of cool and I didnt get to shoot much because a concealed carry class was using the 25-yard range to qualify. They were only shooting at ten yards or so and of course when they walked down to this distance the fifty yard and one hundred-yard ranges had to shut down as they were in front of us. Watching these people try to operate their guns rally worried me as a lot of the guns they had were evidently junk or they hadnt spent much time learning how to operate them. There seemed to be a lot of jams and misfires. Maybe just a case of nerves on exam day? :? I went out Sunday and the day was much better, bright and sunny. I put the .223 barrel on; it had been standing in a safe for two years, and was surprised at one-inch groups at one hundred yards. After a while I took it off and got out my problem child the .44 mag. I was pleasantly surprised as even it shot acceptable hunting groups at fifty yards with both 431 Laser cast 240g bullets and Beartooth 432 250-g bullets. For some reason I avoided the wild flyer that usually ruins my shooting with this barrel. All in all it was one of those golden days, the sun was shinning and the guns were shooting where I pointed them. It doesnt get much better than this.
