reloading the 375 H&H
« on: April 09, 2006, 10:36:55 AM »
Question on primer in th 375 H&H. I am using the hornady 270gr apire point with 61gr. H4895 being it is magnum cartridge do I have to use a magnum primer or can I use a federal(210) large rifle primer. My reason for asking is that I have a lot of large rifle primers but no magnum rifle primers. Not a big deal to go out and get them but just wondering. Thanx

jrkrk,
With H4895 the primers you are using are fine. The powder is one of the easiest igniting and even in a magnum case you shouldn't have any problems with a standard primer.

Hodgdon, Lyman, Speer, Sierra, Hornady = reliable resources
so and so's pages on the internet = not reliable resources
Alway check loads you find on the internet against manuals.
NEVER exceed maximum listed loads.

The load data I use specifies the Federal magnum primer, so that's what I use.
