Absolutely no comparison
« on: May 29, 2006, 10:17:58 AM »
Just got back from shooting my Excaliber Wolverine and My Barnett Commando. Well first of all let me say the commando is fun to shoot and I have a single red dot on it and at 20 yards it shoots about a 4 inch group off a rest about the same my Barnett Ranger shot well good enough to kill a deer but nothing to brag about.  I did not even try at 30 as I figured the groups would open up even more. Now the Wolverine has a stacked 3 dot sight on it (GanderMountain that was on one of their Ten Point Packages) I should ask Gander Mountain if they will do something about it as the 20 and 30 dots are centered to each other but the bottom one is off to the left which of course makes that one shoot off a bit.

At Twenty yards shooting at a 2 inch square the arrows were right on target and about a inch  to inch and a half group so like you guys say shoot at the same target you may risk a ruined arrow. At 30 yards group opened up a little more but still tight about two to two and a half and two arrows touching. still right in the bull area.  Twenty and 30 yard targets were a bunch of 2 inch squares. At 40 yards due to the off dot the arrows were to the left of the bull about 3 inches but two were still about a half inch apart and evidently point of aim for that dot and one I corrected by shooting to the right and that was right on the top of the bull which at 40 yards was a 4 inch painted blue circle.  I feel if the dots were straight the 40 yard target would have been pretty much the same as the 20 and 30 yard targets. If GanderMountain will not take this back and or fix it I guess I will have to learn Kentucky windage for the 40 yard dot. I will talk to the Archery Dept tomorrow though and see what they say.  I will also say that Red Dots work fine for xbows, but a scope may give you some what of a edge for tighter groups since you have magnification and a fine crosshair instead of a dot that covers a larger distance at longer ranges. Still for Hunting purposes they are perfectly fine. Now I cannot say what kind of groups a Barnett compound gets but I do know that a Excaliber kicks the snot out of the Barnett Recurves and I have two of them to judge by.  Not really knocking them as they are adequate and fun to shoot but they are not even close to a excaliber for in their triggers or their accuracy. For all the other brands I cannot make any claims as I have only shot a ten point a couple of times and a Horton once or twice and them were off hand not using a rest.  Jim

Glad yer liking the way the Excalibur is shooting. The rest of the xbows triggers suk what can i say but the truth. I have listened to too many complain of 6-20lb. trigger pulls. You can't be accurate like that. I feel that every one has a choice and i always tell folks to shoot the Bow, naw most time its well it was cheap and i could afford it!  Its impossible to beat the price fer a Excalibur Vixen, and still have a real Bow that will shoot rings around 10 pts. and the rest! Have a good day!
Keep yer nose into the wind & slip from tree to tree in the shadows, you have come fer pilgrim! Miss Vixen & Miss Phoenix, I am The Vixenmaster!

I shot my buddies Excalibur Exocet 200 and they are some fine works of art. I am getting one soon, I like it that much. The accuracy and trigger are superior, what quality!! Jack.

You will not be sorry they are the most accurate xbow out there. Their records prove that. One heck of a xbow.
