Tracer bullets
« on: April 02, 2006, 03:50:29 PM »
I saw that Cableas is selling pulled tracer bullets for a very reasonable price. http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/product/standard-item.jsp?_DARGS=/cabelas/en/common/catalog/item-link.jsp_A&_DAV=MainCatcat20712&id=0031426215742a&navCount=1&podId=0031426&parentId=cat20843&navAction=push&catalogCode=IG&rid=&parentType=index&indexId=cat20843&hasJS=true

I was thinking about getting some just for fun to shoot out of my 30-06.  These bullets wont harn my barrel or anything, will they?  I wouldn't want to burn out my barrel, that would be terrible.
Thanks

In the last couple of years a guy started the sage brush burning between Reno, NV and Carson City.  It was a big deal in the newspapers that he had been shooting tracers.  And he was facing criminal charges for starting the fire, and was going to be billed by the State of Nevada for a few hundred thousand dollars for putting the fire out.  In addition private landowners were lining up for lost homes and other property damage.

Depending on the part of the country fires on military firing ranges from tracers are not uncommon.

As a shooter I was ducking my head.  Every time somebody in the West starts a large fire with tracers we all take a hit.  I know he would not want me on his jury.

I rather suspect that if you burned out somebody's ranch up in Salmon or torched the woods around Idaho City they might take it very unkindly.

They don't start really burning until they are a few yards out so I think you're barrel is safe.  could be kind of fun in the snow.  Larry

Thanks for the info.  I am fully awary of the fire dangers of tracer ammo.  I thought they might be fun to use on those cold snowy days when there isn't much to do.

I am glad you are aware of the fire risk.  So many shooters are not that I responded to the general population.  You live in a nice piece of country.  A lot of people are not aware of the fire risk involved with tracers nor have they observed the tracers ricocheting all over the place at night.

Happy Days
