bent decapping pin
« on: April 03, 2006, 07:08:24 PM »
I have an RCBS 7mm-08 full length sizing die with a decapper/expander that is bent.  I assume that RCBS will send me a new one.  I wonder if this is why my brass shows wear on one side only (down at the expansion ring/web at the base)?  I bet this is why I had so much trouble with stuck cases a few weeks ago too.

Changed to Hornady spray for case lube.  After sizing 10 rounds, I pitched the old lube pad in the trash.  Man, talk about being easier.  No comparison.

I bent an RCBS decapping pin when processing military cases and they sent another with no problem.

With Lee Collet dies, you don't need any lube at all.

Where's it bent?  If its just the pin, you can get a 5 pack for little or nothing.  If its bent above the expander ball (where it screws onto the stem), you need to get a whole new assembly.  Either road, give RCBS a call.
FYI, that would not cause stuck cases.  That comes from no lube.

The decapping pin on my .44 Mag dies came out. It was like the dealy that held it in place was stripped - kept falling out.
YOU GUYS!!! You guys see the size o' that CHICKEN?!?!?!

On the pin that keeps falling out, I think I'd try a little dab of lok tite or fingernail polish before I did much of anything else.

RCBS says that they will replace the part.  I didn't expect any problem there as their customer service has been top notch.  I was really just wondering out loud what kind of problems a bent pin would cause.  It is bent in the middle.  The elliptical deal and the pin below it are both cocked to one side.  I didn't really notice until I laid the die on its side on the bench and rolled it while talking to my son.

Was wondering if it would bend the neck, stick cases, mess up the neck tension, etc.  Probably wasn't helping in any event.
