Another SKS question.
« on: March 25, 2006, 05:07:14 AM »
I've owned a number of SKS rifles and found them all to be a great bang for the bucks.
Some were made better'n others but they always go bang, bang.
Some are quite accurate for what they are to boot.
I haven't had one for quit a spell and ran into one that was nicer than most.
However I haven't run into the brand/importer before now.
It is marked Interstate Arms, made in China. The receiver is milled, serial numbers all match and it has a blade bayonet. No mfg. infomation stamped on the rifle.
Over all condition is quite good, quality is quite good.
Know anything about them?????

First what does the serial number look like, is it a letter followed by 4 numbers?  like a "p" 1234?? (P1234)  If it has no chinese markings and it has a letter followed by 4 numbers on the serial number you may have a sino soviet sks. Other things to look for are a "U" on the rear site and the blade bayo too.  I have seen some sino's have a rear side sling loop too.
A sino soviet sks is a chinese built sks and it was assembled with russian manufactured parts. Your actually getting a quality russian sks for a chinese price.
For sino info go to; www.geocities.com/kirbytheog/sinosov.htm

If its not a sino soviet sks I have noticed some sks's may have been assembled from parts here when the ban was first put on china too.  I have seen a few at gun shows that look strange and iffy.  You may still get a quality working awesome sks but it may have been assembled from brand new left over parts. The ones i have seen had sloppy free hand etched letters over neat looking square etched letters on the orginals.

Thanks D MAN.
The piece has a triangle with the numbers 26 inside, chinese markings, all neat script in white along with the importer Interstate Arms.
The serial # begins with 900 followed by for numbers and the four numbers on the other parts all match.
No alpha prefix.
Milled reciever is very well done with the normal milling machined marks found on mil-spec stuff.

Now the big question.

Where can a fella find some danged AMMO???[/b]

I think either Sportsmans Guide or Cabela's may have ammo its tough right now to find the 7,62x39 ammo.  I have heard there is a south american country who has a very large ammo order and its being filled thats why we have a shortage of russian 7,62x39 ammo. I hope our market gets flooded again soon with the 7,62x39 ammo. On the other hand I also heard a rumor that it maybe $200 a case when it returns too. Like our fellow member S.Sumner says stock up on ammo now!!!!  Save your brass even the berdan primed stuff too and purchase reloading dies a little at a time in the near future we may need them.

No matter what it sounds like you have a keeper there, I have one of those with a similair number. It seems mine is a military version with its red plastic stock. These chinese sks's are well built and are excellent shooters too.  If you see any chinese norinco ammo grab what you can its one of the most accurate stuff for your chinese norinco sks. We never know when some will show up at a gun show.  My sks's will eat anything i put in them its just most are very accurate with certain ammo.

No one at all has any 7.62X39 ammo and won't untill mid April at the earliest.
Even expensive 20 round boxes of commercial domestic ammo is drying up.
Bullets for reloading are scarce also.
Sniff!

Ammo is starting to trickle in finally. Ammoman.com had some a few days ago, but may be sold out by now. Seems I heard that Sportsmans Guide got some also and was filling back orders. I haven't looked around too much yet, but the shortage seems to be letting up somewhat. Here's hoping.
