powder preference for .243
« Reply #30 on: March 28, 2006, 02:35:17 PM »
I got back to reloading a few years ago, and checked out my log and current manuals,"big diff". then I tried out the old loads with the old powder, and it was OK, not "Jake" like it was then, but neither am I. So we will assume that the powder loads will change as all new production changes. However is the 30+yro IMR 4831 that I just uncapped, perform as it was listed in the manuals of Hornady and Sierra of that same period?

I only use imr 4350. for all.243 bullets. Some of the loads listed in the old manuals work just fine. The new manuals use much lower lawyer proof loads. I load mine as hot as I can. 45 grns  over a .85 grn bullet gives me 3350   / 43.5 gives me 3100 with 100 grn  I cronographed these out of a Savage/Stevens 200 with a 22" bbl
I am interested in finding new more acciurate powders but I haven't found anything  that does much better. 8)
