SBH front sight blades
« on: March 30, 2006, 07:39:34 PM »
I have a stainless 4 5/8" SBH and I'm wondering if anyone knows where I can find replacement front sight blades that will pin in to the existing sweated-on factory ramp. I'm hoping I can find a bead but so far I haven't had any luck. Thanks.

Have you tried Brownells?  Here are their revolver sights.  Notice that they are on more than one page, so you have to go to the top of the page you are viewing and click on the next one to get more.

http://www.brownells.com/aspx/ns/store/catsearch.aspx?c=2412&p=3946

Otherwise send them an e-mail telling them what you want.  I searched through their site for an item a while back and couldn't find it, shot them a message and had an answer with the link to the item a couple of days later.

I'm definitely interested. Do those pin into a standard SBH front ramp?

The front sight on my BH(SS) is held in with what looks to be a roll pin. On the Blued guns it's milled out of one solid piece. I'd like to put a V style rear leaf in mine and replace the front blade to a sight that has a ball, similar to a Marlin front site. The only ones that I've been able to find so far require you to have a dovetail milled into the front ramp or just remove it and replace.

Brownell sells a dovetail cutter for their sights. I bought one and a front sight to replace my BH sight......it being too low. It's a simple task for any tool twister.

On the stainless SBH the front blade is held in place with roll pin.  If you need a taller blade, call Ruger and they will send you the blade for the 45LC.  It is a little taller.  Easy as pie to install.

Measure the width and length of the sight blade and search thru Brownells for different style blades.  You can also check with local gun shop.  They may machine one out for you for just a few bucks.  I made one years ago using aluminum flat stock.  Didn't meet IHMSA rules so I tossed it.

Good Luck!!

Thanks everybody, some good ideas here. With as many Blackhawks as there are out there, I'm surprised that there aren't more after-market options available. Guess I might have to fab up the front sight I really want. Thanks again guys.

Lloyd - Yup, I've got a new model stainless SBH. It's the 4 5/8" with the sweated-on ramp that takes the pinned in blades. Are those sight blades of yours all plastic? Or are they metal with plactic inserts?
