tusker jewelery???
« on: March 23, 2006, 04:13:30 PM »
a few years back i shot a 310 pound boar,i had the head mounted,and they gave me the pigs tusks and cutters,since they use artificial teeth in the mount.my daughter was with me during this hunt and she wants me to have a necklace or some piece of jewelery made from a tooth.does anybody know who could do something like this.if not jewelery maybe another idea for a keepsake? thanks in advance,jim :D

I will try to get a pic of the plaques my buddy makes for tusk they are preety cool.
 if you want a necklace you will need to fill the tusk as they are very thin and hollow this will help them from cracking. will post pics asap.

:D con10der309.  I make jewelry, and have converted several tusk into jewelry.  What I usually recommend is polishing the tooth in a rock polisher/tumbler for several days, then I set it in sivler and put a jump ring or bail on it so it can be worn on a chain.  I have also done several hundred elk tooth rings and necklaces.  There should be any number of people in your area that can do it.  Following is a list of the Gem and Mineral Clubs in Pa.  Usually, several of the members are accomplished silversmiths and could handle the job for you.  If you can't find someone there let me know and I will try to provide you with the name and address of someone who will.  I would take the job, but I have 49 work days left, I plan to retire on 2 June, hook up to my 5th wheel and hit the road for a couple of years.

tusker jewelery???
« Reply #5 on: April 11, 2006, 11:23:50 PM »
Here's some ideas;
This is a picture of a Hawaiian style boar tusk necklace very easy to make, just epoxy glue the two tusks together end to end to form this natural crescent then wrap the center with natural fiber twine, silver wire or even raw hide.  Hawaiians beleive the hunter that wears the tusk of the boar he killed posses the boar's "MANA" or spiritual essence or power.

Here's a rather simple but decorative plaque.

You can also make a necklace using a single tusk but the double tusk above is what's popular in Hawaii.  Some folks hang it from their rear view mirror as a trophy.
