In looking at factory ammo for the 35 Whelen remingtons 250 grain bullets are loaded to around 2400 fps. In looking at both Nosler and Conley there 250 grain bullets are loaded to an advertised 2550 fps. Do you guys think these loads can be used in semi-automatic rifles? I emailed both about it to see what they say but i also wanted to get yoiur opinions. I remember back when federal loaded there high energy loads for the 338WM they said they were geared toward bolt action rifles but i never got a chance to try them in my BAR So what do you guys think

I called Conley on this very issue a few months back.

They assured me that all their loads were within SAAMI specs for the .35W. They are at the max of the SAAMI specs, but within specs. As long as your gun can shoot SAAMI spec ammo, they ought to be fine. This, at least, is what I was told.

Call them yourself, though.

I ended up getting The Hunting Shack load up a 250 grain Grand Slam Speer for me for about half the price of Conley's ammo and couldn't be happier. Shoots real fine.

Thanks Daks i got an e-mail today from Nosler and they said there ammo would work fine in semi-autos. There double the price of remington ammo but i would still like to chrony them and compare them with conley and remington before i reload.I dont want to try for the higher velocitys if there would be feeding problems. Most manuals show above remington factory ammo with there velocitys.

I once had a Remington 7400 in .35 whelen and loaded for it no problems at all. The .35 whelen is now available in the new Rem. 750 semi I've handeled one and with the internal improvements should be a dandy. By the way I run my loads pretty hot !

Country Boy are you using small base dies for the 35 whelen in the semi-auto or are they functioning well with the use of standartd full length sizing dies

Yes, I used small based dies, simpaly because I had them already. but I also tried some standard RCBS dies and they worked fine.

I asked because i cant find small base for the 35 whelen i gave a call to rcbs and spoke with a tech and he said rcbs can make them special order but that they would be around $80.00 he reccommend i try standard dies but that i should give them them half a turn or more after they touch the shell holder , that that should work.What make of small base dies are you using as i would rather order them right from the start if i could.

I put between 40 & 50 rounds through my new 750, in 35 whelen, over the weekend. All loads were 56-59 grains of RL15 or IMR 4320 under a 225 gr. Partition or Gameking. Only cleaned the barrel a few times. The action cycled perfectly, the gun is a SOFT shooter. Some of these were getting pretty hot, none were "cold".
Next outing will be with 200 and 250 grain bullets.
56 grains of RL15 under the 225 gr. Partiton, gave me repeated 1.25" groups, some a bit better by maybe an eigth inch. I like this combination!
I should also comment that I am not a particularly great shot, so the gun might be better. I will try to get one of the steadier guys at the camp to give it a try.
