whitworth sharpshooters
« on: August 28, 2005, 09:20:47 PM »
Could someone possibly list some confederate units that had sharpshooters armed with whitworth rifles? I haven't found much info on the net. Just that two whitworths were issued to sharpshooters of McGowan's Brigade, and some were issued to the 27th South Carolina Infantry and used at Fort Wagner. I know guns were very uncommon, and only assigned to to the best marksmen. I'd like to find some more info on these sharpshooters.

Here is a link to a book that should answer all your questions . The name of the book is Confederate Whitworth Sharpshooters by John Morrow .

If you ever get to Nashville , The Tennessee State museum has a nice Whitworth on display , along with many other great Civil War items .
