What kind of bullet would you rather use for the deer in your area? As in a SST or a ballistic tip. Or any other bullet.
have fun! get it done with a 308.

I hunt in Canada, big deer and lots of brush.  I don,t mean the TSX plows brush I mean it is very accurate and sometimes I have to shoot thru a small opening.  I am amazed at how accurate this load is in my T3 Tikka 30-06.  Buckfever

I use only conventional non magnum rounds for deer such as the 7-08, .270 Win., .30-06 or such. I have found conventional core and cup bullets from folks like Hornady, Remington and Winchester work fine. I've never really seen a need for more. I use Nosler BTs and PTs also but really I've never seen it make a difference in effect.

I use the .284" 154 grain Hornady Interbond in my 280 Rem AI.  Works great.

I like the Winchester Ballistic Silvertip.  I think that is nothing more than a moly coated ballistic tip.  In my .270, it is simply deadly on whitetails big and small.

I like speer hot-cores.  Their flat base gives me a theoretical accuracy advatage over boat tails, they have high B.C.'s (probably inflated but don't tell me if they are), and the cup and core construction is affordable.  When I worry about a bullet not holding together, I use a heavier one.  This reduces my velocity and gives more weight to work with.  I figure that if I am worried about bullet integrity I am shooting at a large animal and so a super flat trajectory isn't needed anyway.

I have a confession.  I am a fool for new bullets.  Every year I buy and shoot the "latest and greatest."  I show up in camp with the coolest looking ammo in the woods.  But to be honest, for whitetails, any big game bullet that shoots well in your rifle, and hits the vitals will kill your deer.  WE all know this.  I guess that the ammo manufacturers like to see me coming.
