Need a plinker 41 mag load for blackhawk
« on: April 10, 2006, 10:03:45 AM »
Just bought my first single action wheelgun.   I have always considered myself a DA guy.

Found a Ruger Blackhawk in 41 mag, and bought it because of the caliber.  I have several Smith&Wesson 41's and have loads for hunting, but none for plinking.

If this works out I may become a Cowboy!

Any pet loads?

Thanks,

Fred

I have used 8.5 to 9.5 gr of Unique under a lot of bullets.
Mostly I use 9 gr for jacketed and cast 170 to 215 gr.
Use a standard primer and any case with a firm crimp.
I've used this load for many years - even on some 235 gr cast bullets that I had.

I have been using a scoop of powder from a 1cc lee dipper(9.2gr) of unique under a 210gr. Lee swc cast bullet.  Works nice, recoil's light, even if it is a bit dirty.  Makes the lil'gun loads I was shooting today feel like a sledgehammer when it was touched off.  It also hits alot higher than the hunting loads I use.  HTH
