Federal AutoMatch bulk pack.
« on: March 27, 2006, 09:24:24 PM »
I bought some Fed. 350 round bulk pack AutoMatch from Wally t'uther day.
I'm impressed by the accuracy of this round nose high velocity stuff.
From my Savage MkII I shot a 3/4" group at 50 yards this morning. It shoots a ragged one holer at 25 yards.
Now I know that's not Olympic grade shooting but the Savage MkII is a very inexpensive club of a plinker.
The little Savage does o.k. and I bought it as a 'knock around barn gun" and that's exactly what it is. A barn gun.
It wears an old Weaver 3X9 A.O. scope I paid 35 bucks for on eBay.
It is my garden pest and stray cat eliminator and it does quite well for what it is.
I'm impressed with the AutoMatch Federal offering but wish it came in h.p. configuration.
At 50 the Savage gave me 1 1/4" with Fed. bulk Wally world hi-vel h.p.
Not quite head shot medicine for squirrel however, but plenty o.k. for the stinking cats the city people dump on my place that turn feral in about a week.
Here kitty, kitty, BANG!
Hope that didn't offend the feline fanciers out there.

Did not offend me but some one may make a issue of it we will just have to wait and see the last time we got into a cat shooting discussion it went down hill fast.
Said I never had much use for one, never said I didn't know how to use it.

Oh, oh.
Cat disclaimer:
I love house cats. My cat is the only company I have and she is pampered, well fed, loved and in the house where she belongs.
People from towns dump the unwanted pets on us in the country and they turn feral and we have to deal with them.
The feral animals are a threat to domestic pets too and spread disease and often kill and eat domestic pets.
Anyone with half an ounce of sense would dispatch feral animals on sight.
Dogs are a big issue around here. Dogs have attacked kids at bus stops and one was about to attack my boy who was five at the time.
I have to carry a gun to go out back of my house now due to feral dogs.
Anyone that can't see the difference between killing a "pet" and a "threat" need not comment at all.

Now about my orginal question please.

We better stick to the ammo issue and skip the cat and dog issue feral or not. Last time we talked about this at the potbellied stove GB shut it down as may be upsetting to some since this is a family orientated site. I agree with you on the feral issue but we better not pursue it any farther.  Jim

We have that foolishness here as well.  I live an hour from two large cities and it is almost like people think that is the magic distance where animals won't find their way home.  I wish those folks who do the dumping could spend some time scared, cold and hungry.

Someone dumped a kitten to young to live on her own at my son's farm.  He found it close to death and put it with a mother cat on his farm.  She is now living in our house and is one of the few cats I like.  I suppose I should be grateful to have a chance to get to know her, but I still feel the inhumane folks that tossed her out deserve some special kind of punishment.

I bought a few bricks of the automatch for myself.  I was also impressed by the accuracy out of my Ruger Mark III Hunter.  It is also a heck of a lot cheaper than Eley or other match loads.  I do not compete in small bore pistol match, but my groups compared favorably with others that do the other night at the range.  I like it!

What is the stated velocity?

I just started shooting in a Sporter league and the Wolf Match is nice stuff but it's a lil pricey for practice. It shoots great in my MK II, but I'd like something with the same POI at a cheaper price.

If memory serves (too lazy to go check..lol) stated velocity is 1200 fps from rifle length barrels. I use this ammo in my match tuned 22/45 Pac-Lite and it's fairly accurate but gives the occasional flyer. It's sure better than the other bulk stuff and the price is right.
