At yesterday's match at CSLC, D. Greenaway made a "long run" on the 300 meter pig targets - and LONG certainly applies here.

I would like to add that the previous record of 47 pigs was held for 20 years by the late shooting great Conard Bernhardt. It is not only a feat of great shooting on Derek's part, but it is also an honor to have broken such a prestigous record. Al Foust

What are the rules regarding a length run?
Is there a time limit between shots?
Can you take a rest break if you tire?
Does it have to be witnessed?
Is so, by who?

Let me give this a try to see whether I'm correct.
You qualify for the attempt by hitting all 10 during a match. You then attempt the record after the match is over with the regular "caller" giving you the 15 second "Ready" and the regulation 2 1/2 minutes to shoot each string of five with the regulation rest between strings. I don't remember seeing a rule on this, though. I guess the barrel would get pretty hot in HP.
What did I get wrong, guys?

The pertinent rules are 9.7 and 17.5.1

My new book in enroute so, if there have been any changes, this may be dated:

If you take all 10 (or 15 or 20) during regular match firing in HP or BP, you may opt to continue immediately or wait until the end of the match. (Everybody else waits until match conclusion.) If more than 30 minutes has gone by since your original string completion, you are allowed a sighter. That used to be mandatory but is now, I believe, optional. If you choose to shoot a sighter, it doesn't count toward your score -- although I'm told that it was at one time 'convertible'.

I see nothing in the book about any rest period. IMO, if you take more than the normal 'stand easy' time between strings, you'd be out of line; but I'm not certain that that's correct.

It can be done at any NRA sanctioned -- approved or registered -- match.

Yes it has to be witnessed! By at least an appropriate match official. (Let's get serious once in a while! Do you really think that anyone will accept a 'National Record' that nobody but the shooter noticed happening?)

You don't think they'll accept my long run of 8,434,334 turkeys? No one else saw it, but it surely happened! Why, it would have been longer had Federal not stopped production of the ammo that I liked and started back up making this new crap that doesn't shoot!
