Muzzle Break

I just got back form the shooting range. I was shooting my TC 14" 7-30 Waters with a factory muzzle break for the first time, after about 15 rounds I shoot my next shot and thru my scope I see something big hurling down range. Upon inspection of my gun I see that I no longer have a break on my gun, it went down range as part of my last shot. Anybody ever hear of this? It was glued on. I was shooting Federal Premium 120 gr factory ammo.

Never experienced this personally but unfortunately it is fairly common w/ newer model barrels.  Time to call TC.  GOOD SHOOTIN',  Walt

Tell me how you did it? Wish mine would fly off. I love the 7x30 Waters but i hate the muzzle break.

There use to be a collection of brakes at our local range...

on the window sill. Most of them were T/C brakes!

IMO, that's probably the best thing. Seriously, I would send the barrel back and have them do what ever it takes to remove any signs of the brake.

Again, IMHO, I don't believe there is any caliber that the contender will safely shoot that requires a brake. I currently shoot a 375JDJ and know some guys that shoot the 444 Marlin and 45-70 in the contender and none of them use muzzle brakes. Sure there is a little more recoil, but not to the point of being unbearable.

However is the brake is what you really want, I would have it replaced by Thompson.

That's why there are so many choices and selections.......Everyone has their own preferences and as the old saying goes, "To Each his own"

Trapper, let me lead this problem into a discussion that may (or may not) give you some direction. If anyone were in Trappers situation, which would you do:
1) replace the brake - either with the same style(preferrably one that stays with the barrel) or screw on style....
2) clean up the crown and have the barrel magnaported?

You know Trapper every time I read this thread I have to chuckle. I remember one time when the front scope cover (flip-up style) blew off my 7-30.........I can just imagine the look of utter amazement you must have had on your face when you realized what happened.  :-D  :eek:
