Hi All, new to forum and have a question. Can the qriginal Contender pistol in 10" .357 with a ribbed barrel be scoped. I was told by a gunsmith that the rib could not be removed and was insuffiecient to mount a scope on.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

I'm not going to say your gunsmith is wrong, but I cannot see any reason that the rib could not be removed enough for the scope base to be installed. I do agree that it is not a stable platform for a scope.

I've got the Contender with 10" 357 ribbed barrel in lay away with a local gun shop and have not had very long to look it over. Will removing the rib be difficult or can it be removed without the aid of a gun smith. I pretty sure that the rear of the rib is screw attached to the barrell along with the rear sight but am unsure as to how the front of the rib is attached to the barrel. I seem to remember a pin also in the middle. Any help would be great?

Is the rib solid or is it vented? If it is vented you could go the route I did with a 45 LC/.410 barrel..attach the scope with a shotgun vent rib mount. B-Square offers one.
