Brass Test

Took some 45 Colt rounds to the range today along with my Trapper.  Groups were fine (1.5") with all loads but found the Star brass shot two inches lower than Winchester brass at 50 yards.  Repeated the test 5 times and had the same results.  All brass had been trimmed to the same length, powder charges and bullets where the same and was shooting over sand bags.

If you will weigh the brass, I believe you will find that one brand weighs more than the other.  The one with the higher weight will have less volume and will thus develope more pressure with the same amount of powder.

I'm sure that's the reason, that's why I went to the Star brass to begin with.  It has a reputation of being a littlle tougher for hotter loads than most others.  Thought that the two inches was a little much though.  It affects my turkey loads more than I ever thought it would.
