Rayman, yes I have but did not have to remove my .45 from my holster. The fact that the fellow realized I was armed and ready to draw the pistol  ended the confrontation before it started. As for firing a shot, no I have not.   Dave

YES, but not the way you meant it. At point blank range my Glock 24, pointed directly into a perpetrator's face was a more than compelling reason to stop an imminent attack.
Like a previous poster stated, the presence of a firearm, even in the holster, has a chilling effect on persons with ill intent. There is no way of knowing how often my service weapon has detered an ill-conceived idea of someone who may have otherwise furthered his intentions.

Yes, but it wasn't the two legged atttacker.  a few yrs ago while out with the horses, my g/f's dog started acting different and the horses went nuts.  A big racconn was in with them.  (broad daylight = rabid)   Hearded the horses out while the dog kept it occupied.  I had my SP101 with me and approached the little $.  When it charged at me and reared up, I put some extra weight into his carcass.
Thankfully, I've never needed it otherwise.

I've had my share of run-ins with pistols.  Not that they are the Hammer of Thor, just convenient to have near.  After a shoot situation I have always wished I had a rifle...Shot placement, and a guardian angel that is always on guard, has kept me (relatively) safe so far.  :D

20 years ago when I was deer hunting a big,  vicious looking dog came after me while I was in the middle of nowhere. I thought when he saw me he would go on his way, but instead he came at me. A 444 marlin will really wipe out a big dog with a chest shot. Went through end to end. When I looked him over he was mangy, wet around the mouth (rabid?) It ruined my day. Didn't want to shoot a dog but this was nobody's pet. Sure was thankful for that Marlin.
