should I go to get all the info I need. I do a lot of firearms hunting and want to try something new, I just don't know anyone that crossbow hunts.

Right here is a good place to start, just fire away and we shall do our best. The first thang is decide what yer hunting fer. Of course an Excalibur crossbow will cover every thang. What model you choose depends on how fer on the other side of game you want to walk to pick up yer expended arrow! :grin:

Your best bet is to go to a pro shop and test some of their xbows. Find one that fits you well, shoots well and feels good to you. Then if they're priced right buy one, if not look for a used xbow on the internet or elsewhere. Excalibur, Ten Point or Horton would be good choices.
I favor Excalibur as they are lighter and more maintanence free than a compound crossbow.

Have thought about getting into x-bows as well. No verry little about them. had only ever heard of Barret until reading some posts here. Seems that Exaclibur is pretty much the preferred brand. What in particualr is it about these excaliburs?

Well Number one they are extremely accurate and known for their accuracy. Two they are easy to take care of less hassle than a compound xbow. ( You can resting them in the field something that is difficult with a compound bow unless you may have a portable bow press. ) Three while all xbows are noisy to a point I feel that the recurve xbows are not as noisy as the compounds are. Four Excalibers have a sweet trigger better than most of them which of course adds to the better accuracy of these xbows. Trust me I have two Barnett recurves and the difference is night and day between a Excaliber and a Barnett. The Barnetts are still fun to shoot but I do not get the accuracy out of them that I can out of my Excaliber. I have never shot the compound Barnetts so I have no idea how the triggers are on them but I can say the Excalibers have a excellent trigger system which of course helps with the accuracy of the xbow. If you can go to a shop that lets you shoot different brands and they do carry the Excaliber and others I think you will be sold on them over the others. JMHO. Not knocking the others personal preference is what counts you may find a xbow of a different brand you like better thats your decision. One other point from what I have heard Excaliber will stand behind what they sell and if you go to the Excaliber site you will hear that from the members there. Not sure how the others will stack up to that. I do know that others have said Excaliber will still work with you after that warranty is over with if you do have a problem, not sure if others would do the same.

Ditto! On Excaliburs! I can tell you unless you get a high dollar 10pt. all of those compound xbows have pitiful triggers. All xbows are abit loud when shot, compound xbows tend to be heavy on the limb end and light on stock end. You try them shoot them, then decide. I shoot an Excalibur Phoenix and the only other bow i would buy is the Vixen and its made by you guessed right Excalibur!
