« on: May 16, 2006, 05:15:25 AM »
I had a conversation with a couple of VT State Troppers a bit ago and the subject of the Benoits came up,one tropper know them and said that they and Hal Blood were"the real deal",they were evrythig good youv'e read and heard. He wasn't as complimentry of another hunting familly from ME.I also learned that one of the Benoits is also well known for building snowmachine engines for racing. It was good to hear that some of what you read is true and just not made up.

BENOITS AND HAL BLOOD,THE REAL DEAL

I was offered a job up in their part of VT back in the mid 70's, and was up there interviewing during the deer season.  As there had been an article or 2 written about them, I was aware of the Benoits, and went by their place.  There were 2 spectacular buck hanging there.
I came from farm country in NY/PA and had seen some deer, but these were some real large animals with a bunch of ivory on their heads.
Some of their advice has served me well, tho I am not even close to being in their league.  I have had many successful hunts since then, but compared to their deer-osaurus', have been taking a lot of veal. (somebody has to cull the young dumb genetically dorked ones!)
I recall that in those days, their preference was for the classic green & black plaid hunting coats.  It was a practical solution from an era now gone.  My impression of the family was that what you see is what you get.
A society only becomes great when its old men plant trees that they know they will never enjoy the shade of.
