Glock 19 or 19C
« on: April 02, 2006, 09:13:46 PM »
I am thinking about getting a Glock 19 for its small size.  I am wondering if the 19C is the right choice or the original 19.  I haven't shot either one yet, and am wondering if the compensated model will allow me to get on target faster when double tapping etc.  The primary use would be for personal defense.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Either one would be a good carry gun.  They compensated barrels do increse muzzle flash, and the 9mm doesn't in my opinion, recoil enough to justify this.  You may be of a different opinion.

That is what I was wondering.  I have an uncompensated 45ACP (S&W 4506) and am slow to get on target for the second shot.  I will try to shoot both before buying but I don't know if I will be able to.

Thanks.

I'm no fan of compensated carry pistols. Can't understand why anyone would want one. A proper grip will get your splits down to as fast as you can pull the trigger without the disadvantages of the comp.

KeithL:  Also keep in mind that the recoil impulse generated from your 9mm Glock will be substantially less than that of any 45 ACP, at least any of the dozens that I have fired.  I am no Rob Leatham, but I can rattle off some pretty quick, well-aimed shots with my Glock.  I'll bet that you could too, without the comp.

OK, Thanks.  Uncompensated it is.  My kid has a model 22 and likes it, so I am going Glock for sure, now I know which one to get for sure.

KeithL:  How's she shoot?  I think that you'll love that pistol.  Mine have all performed flawlessly. Hope you like yours as much as I do

If work doesn't get in the way I will try it out Tuesday after picking it up.

My son has a Glock 22.  It has been great so far: several thousand rounds without a problem.  He does clean it each time he uses it, and it shows little wear so far.  His 22 recoils harder than my Smith 45ACP.  That 40S&W must be potent.

My new Glock 19 came in yesterday afternoon, and last evening I picked ti up.  Work will have me busy until Saturday morning, so it will get the test then.  That will give me a chance to clean it well and oil it, and also break in the magazines a little bit.  I can hardly wait!!

Shot my new 19 today first, and am impressed.  The first clip was a little wild, but as I got used to it the groups got tighter and tighter.  I think I am going to like this one!

I think that you'll love it.  I own many handguns, but when I carry one of my Glocks every day to protect me and mine,  I know it will go bang every time. They are light, easy to maintain, accurate, reliable as any pistol can be.  Welocome to the Glock family!

Wait until you detail strip it...  The simplicity is where Glock shines.

I assume you know of glocktalk.com.  Great source of info.

Thanks.  I have a few thousand rounds through it now, and have stripped it several times.  It takes much less effort than my S&W 4506.  I am getting used to it and am getting pretty good with it.  I am satisfied that I got the right one.

Thanks!
